Smörgåsbord a little bit of everything

Floored

I know you're all dying to know what we did with our floors. Did we install new floors? Did we paint? Did we whitewash? Did we stick with the natural color? Did we stain them darker? What did we do?! Well the wait is over.

But first let me explain...

Once we pulled up the 50 year old vinyl flooring, and some old-timey pressed fiber board type thing, we found this.

WOOD!

We guessed it was pine, possibly left over bits seeing as the widths varied. Then we sanded them down.

Not too bad. So we figured we might as well stick with these.

At this point I was torn between just whitewashing them or painting them a nice glossy white. So I let Pookie choose. He was doing the work after all.

And wah-lah!

He chose to paint them in a heavy duty glossy white that is surprisingly easy to keep clean and, most importantly, bounces the light around what used to be the darkest room in the house. Yay!

I love my new old floors, gaps and all.

You can see the whole room here.

What is it with people saying wah-lah? Wah-lah not a word. The word is voila. It's French.

Actually, it's not voila. It's voilà. If you're going to be rude, at least know your facts.

ELLEHUDSO, you can see the floor from a distance in my latest post. Sorry I forgot to get one before furnishing the room.

i am interested in doing a room with those floors. is the gaps not an issue in terms of cleaning?

No, the gaps aren't an issue. I just vacuum and use a damp cloth to clean up any spills. A Swiffer would probably work too. If you use a mop and bucket, just wring out as much water as possible so it doesn't drip down into the gaps.
