This is precisely why I love the internets. There's so much inspiration out there. So many wonderful ideas that I would have never come up with on my own. Like using a log as a tree stand for a faux Christmas tree.

The extra height the log gives the tree will make it easier for Santa to get those bigger packages underneath. ;)

...for Christmas Star pastries!

This year I went bananas and made apple cinnamon in addition to the traditional plum pastries. So good and so addictive.

In honor of Pookie's birthday I made one of his favorite treats in the form of a cake using Nigella's Tiramisu Layer Cake recipe from her Christmas cookbook. Great cookbook. You should get it.

Since I had some leftover bits of cake as well as some of the marscapone and coffee liqueur filling, I popped them in a glass and topped them with some cocoa and a chocolate coffee bean.

Waste not, want not.
I suspect the Birthday Boy will be quite pleased and a wee bit tipsy after diving into this.

I recently - like last week - took up knitting. This is my first finished project. Pickles recommends this pattern for the "lazy knitters". That's me! It only took a few hours to knit.

You probably thought it was going to be one of those run-of-the-mill furry cat beds. Not for this kitty.

Instead I prefer this laptop thingie.

It's big so it makes me feel tiny. Not like that kid.

FYI This is how I blog.

It's actually quite comfortable in the reclining position.

But my favorite part about my new bed has to be the heated seat. Ahhhhhhh.

So here's my new room. Yes, I am claiming it for myself. I'm selfish. The kids want to use it as a playroom but they are getting one of those as the renovation progresses. So it's all mine, I tell you!

I know you're all dying to know what we did with our floors. Did we install new floors? Did we paint? Did we whitewash? Did we stick with the natural color? Did we stain them darker? What did we do?! Well the wait is over.
But first let me explain...
Once we pulled up the 50 year old vinyl flooring, and some old-timey pressed fiber board type thing, we found this.

WOOD!

My son requested a "car wreck cake in the shape of a six" for his birthday. Ask and Ye shall receive.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONKEY!

Chicken Parmigiana, that's what. Once again I got this recipe from the Pioneer Woman and once again is was super easy and really delicious.

I also made her The Bread, only I didn't use the shit-ton of butter she did. I probably used a quarter of a stick of butter on each half instead of the recommended one stick of butter per half. Still, it was quite buttery and so yummy.

So what are you having for dinner?
